We also learned about the Circulatory System and watched "How its Made" on Blood Products.

Science 8:  Practice Test due Thursday, the same day as your Ch 1 & 2 Test.  Please spend some time "studying for recall" with another person, since speaking the language of science is the best way to internalize the information we learn about.

Today I collected the Onion Lab, with a conclusion.  I also gave out a few new notebook checks, for some of  you to go over with your adults.  Kindly ask your adult to go through your binder, and check off the items on the Notebook Checklist I gave you.  Attached is an interim too.

We did not go over answers to pg 63 # 2-10, 12, which were due today.

Science 8:  Today I collected the notebook check, which parents were supposed to help you complete.  We learned the names and brief functions of 11 Human body systems, and will have a quiz on this on Monday.  I need pg 49 # 1-5 (in sentences) from a few of you still.  Due Monday is the Energy WS (Hand-out titled Review 18.1).

Science 8:  pg 49 # 1-5 in sentences is due Wednesday.  Today we wrote notes on how Materials Move Through the Membrane, then we read pg 40-44.  I also collected the last few placemats that were assigned on Friday.  At the start of the class we reviewed bacteria shapes, eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, and cellular respiration.

Friday,  February 10, 2017

Science 8:  Today we read pg 33 and 34, and filled in a "place mat".  To make your placement, write brief notes on these topics: the names and shapes of bacteria, diseases caused by viruses, the reproductive cycle of a virus (sketch your own figure 1.29), reason's why viruses are considered not living.  We also marked pg 39 # 1-12 in sentences from an answer key.

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

Science 8:  Today we read pg 28-32 and did pg 39 # 1-12 in sentences.   We started the Yeast Lab, and used it to learn about the scientific method.  We completed our safety test and marked it.

Monday, February 6th.

Science 8:  Today we went over the answers to pg 31.  We looked at 9 items, trying to decide whether they were alive or not.  Most of our class was spent with the Ono Cho visitors, learning about Japanese Tea, Calligraphy, Pop Culture, and Pokemon.

Friday, February 3rd, 2017

Science 8:  Today we learned about various pieces of science equipment found in a highschool science lab.  Your assignment was to write a procedure to determine which travel mug (one from The Modern Bakery and one from La Baguette) would keep hot drinks hotter for a longer period.  A procedure is a numbered list of steps that describes how an experiment is done.  The steps need to be detailed enough that another scientist could follow the steps again to confirm the result from the experiment.  We will do our safety test on Tuesday, and I will check your supplies on Monday (binder with fresh paper,  text, pencils, pens, ruler, protractor, calculator,  hair tie for those with long hair).

Thursday, February 2, 2017

Science 8: Today we created wet and dry mounts, and drew what we observed in the microscope field.  We also read about, and sketched/labelled the 8 WHMIS symbols.  In the second half we took notes on Plant Cell anatomy.  We read pg 24-30, and did pg 31 # 1,2,4,5,6.  On Friday, I want to check that you have all your supplies:  binder, spare paper, pens and pencils, calculator, ruler, protractor,   On Monday, I want to do a safety test, on all the  safety knowledge we have learned so far.
